Moving is stressful, especially if it’s your first time. You might not know where you should start, what to do, or how to go about it. Whether you’re moving to a new home, apartment, or business, you’ll want to do it right. After all, you are transporting your precious belongings to a new location so it’s best to get them there in one piece.

Depending on the type of move that you need, you’ll want to find reliable movers who have the experience, material, and technology to help you move. As always, you should plan out your budget since the price of movers varies significantly due to many factors including the size of property, number of movers and trucks needed, weight of items, distance traveled, and more.

Average Cost Of Movers In Round Rock

When you’re moving to Round Rock, you’re moving to the Sports Capital Of Texas with a population of nearly 150,000. With the beautiful scenery, the largest indoor waterpark in North America, and the story of outlaw Sam Bass and his famous shootout with lawman Sheriff A.W Grimes reenacted every year, you’ll find plenty to do in this lovely city. Residents often enjoy outdoor activities, shopping, dining, and checking out the local minor league baseball teams.

Whether you’re moving to or from Round Rock, you will want to enlist the help of professional movers who can be your helpful guide to organizing and arranging your move.

We’ll take a look at the average moving costs of Round Rock movers in regard of local moves and property sizes:

  • Studio/One-Bedroom Apartment: $420– $600
  • Two-Bedroom Apartment: $420– $900
  • Three-Bedroom Apartment: $630– $1,100
  • Four-Bedroom Apartment: $1,100 – $2,000+

Generally, moving locally is less expensive than moving long distance. Local movers charge by the hour with each moving company ranging between $30 – $40 an hour per mover. It could be subject to an increase depending on the additional services you might need. For example, packing and unpacking, storage services, and more. The cost of your move depends on how long it takes the movers to pack, load, transport, unload, and unpack your belongings.

Long distance moves really depend on the services that you’ll use, the distance, and the weight of your items. However, despite variable factors that can contribute to the costs, you can expect long-distance moves to cost approximately twice more than local moves, mainly due to the different rules of intrastate and interstate relocations. It’s best to check with a moving company in Round Rock, TX to see if they are knowledgeable of the right regulations and have the right permits to do long-distance moves.

Average Cost Of Long-Distance Movers In Round Rock

As mentioned above, if your move is a long-distance move, one of the factors that will contribute towards the moving cost is the weight of your items instead of the size of the property. You can expect to pay approximately $0.70 per pound for items transported over every 1,000 miles. This does not include any extra fees.

Try to calculate the average weight of your belongings in total so you’ll have a general idea of what the cost will amount to. For example:

  • Studio Apartment: 1,800 lbs
  • One-Bedroom Apartment: 2,200 lbs – 3,200 lbs
  • Two-Bedroom House: 5,000 lbs – 6,000 lbs
  • Three-Bedroom House: 9,000 lbs

If your items are transported across 1000 miles in a long distance move, you’ll just have to multiply the weight of your items by $0.70. The approximate cost of your movers will be:

  • 1,800 lbs x $0.70 = $1,260
  • 3,200 lbs x $0.70 = $2,240
  • 6,000 lbs x $0.70 = $4,200
  • 9,000 lbs x $0.70 – $6,300

These calculations are just an estimate of what your move would look like minus the additional services you might need taxes and tips.

When you want to leave everything in your moving process up to a professional moving company, you are likely looking at a full-service move. This service means that your movers do all the work from start to finish. Full-service movers will pack up all your things, load them safely onto the moving truck, transport them, unload them at your new location, unpack, and put everything in place for you.

Extra Round Rock Moving Services

Typically when you book a move, the moving company will give you a quote based on your type of move. You’ll also have the option of adding supplementary moving services to your package if it is needed for your move:

  • Disassembly/Assembly – Movers will disassemble large and awkward items and assemble them after relocation.
  • Packing – Movers will pack your items in moving boxes and label them accordingly.
  • Loading and Unloading – Movers will do all the heavy lifting for you by loading your items onto the moving truck and unloading them at your new location for you.
  • Delivery: Movers will transport your items to your new destination with a moving truck.
  • Storage: You can store your items in a storage facility for a period of time.

Using these services will make your overall move as stress-free as can be. You can focus on the things you really want to do and have the movers do all the work for you.

Additional Round Rock Moving Expenses

Here are a list of extra moving fees that might incur depending on your type of move:

  • Extra Movers: The bigger your move, the more movers will be needed.
  • Flight Charges: You will be charged per flight of stairs. Stairs are challenging and dangerous for anyone, especially if you’re carrying heavy objects.
  • Elevator Charges: You may be charged if your movers have to haul items up and down elevators.
  • Appliance Charges: Large appliances like refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, stoves, etc. will be extra charges. This cost includes installation.
  • Long Carry: The distance between your front door to the moving truck will be an extra cost if it is longer than the average distance.
  • Storage in Transit (SIT): If your new location isn’t ready to receive your items by the time the movers get there, you will be charged storage in transit fee where the moving company has to store your items before they can move them in.
  • Guaranteed Delivery Date: Knowing the exact date and time your belongings will arrive will be an extra fee.

Round Rock Moving Equipment Rentals

If you’re intent on doing all the labor work yourself without the help of a moving company, you have the option of renting a moving truck and moving container. The cost of renting moving equipment is charged by the following:

Moving Truck Rental:

  • Per day: $19 – $55
  • Mileage: $0.65 – $0.99 per mile
  • Fuel: Depends on mileage
  • Truck Coverage: $20 – $55
  • Parking Permit (if needed): $25 per day
  • Equipment (if needed): Dolly, straps, blankets
  • Moving Container Rental:
  • Storage: $65 – $275 per every 30 days
  • Initial and Final Delivery: $70 – $95
  • Damage Coverage: $10 – $350
  • Parking Permit (if needed): $25 per day
  • Door Lock (if needed): $10 – $15

Among a moving truck and moving container, you’ll need moving boxes, bubble wrap, packing paper, moving blankets, stretch wrap, and packing tape. These will come in handy when you are handling your entire move by yourself. All the packing, loading, transporting, unloading, unpacking, and putting everything in place. You will need to do these all by yourself without the help of a moving company. This is why you need to plan ahead and budget to prepare for any necessary expenses that you will be spending on your move.

How You Can Make Moving Easier

There are a lot of things you can do to make your move easier. After all, moving is stressful enough, you’ll want your move to be as hassle-free as possible so you can focus on being at your new location. Ideally, you should plan your move two months ahead of time, but for those of you who have a busier schedule, you should give yourself at least a minimum of three weeks.

Create A Moving Checklist

Draft a moving checklist on a timeline so you can visually organize your move and handle any unexpected events that may occur. Your movers may give you a comprehensive moving checklist.

Organize Your Belongings

Organize all your belongings into things you’ll keep and things you’ll throw away. You could essentially look at it as things that you see yourself using in the future and things that you don’t even use presently and will never use in the future. Additionally, you can do a good cause and donate your items to local charities so that someone can put your items to good use. For example, old clothes, electronics, art, etc. By decluttering and purging your belongings, you’ll be left with less to pack and lower moving costs.

Pack As Soon As You Can

Get all the packing materials that you need to pack your belongings. You’ll want to start with non-essential items first, items that you currently don’t need to use until after you move. For example, if your move is in the summer time, you’ll want to pack away all your winter jackets and other off-season clothing. Additional items include books, picture frames, decor, and so on.

How To Pack For Your Move

Use your judgment when you pack your things. If it’s too heavy for you, then it’s too heavy for the movers. Large and heavy items should be packed in smaller boxes to prevent other items from being packed with them, making them heavier for anyone to carry. Pillows, clothes, and other lighter items should be packed in bigger boxes and stuffed in any gaps to fill up your loose boxes. Try not to overpack your boxes to prevent them from breaking. In general, try to keep your boxes no more than 50 pounds. And of course, just like the golden rule of grocery bag packing, heavier boxes should be on the bottom and lighter boxes should be on the top.

Fragile items should be bundled up in wrapping paper, and moving blankets, and secured with bubble wrap and foam peanuts so they get some extra cushioning. This will help your precious items get to your new location in one piece.

Items that are hazardous cannot be packed into your moving boxes. It’s best to separate them into different boxes or dispose of them before your move. Hazardous items include:

  • Aerosols
  • Batteries
  • Charcoal
  • Cleansers containing bleach or ammonia
  • Fertilizer
  • Lighter fluid
  • Nail polish remover
  • Oil or gas
  • Paint cans
  • Pesticides and poisons

These items have the potential to leak and become dangerous so it’s best to pack these items separately. You can also ask your movers if there are any items that you shouldn’t include in your move.

Label Your Moving Boxes

Don’t forget to label your boxes. You don’t need to get into great detail, but it’s best to be organized. There are several ways to keep your boxes organized:

  • Color-Coding System – Colors are a creative way to mark your boxes. Pick a colored marker or colored tape to represent a room. For example, blue for the bathroom, yellow for the kitchen, and pink for bedroom 1.
  • Number System – You can put the location your box is supposed to go with a number to mark its inventory list. For example, Bedrooms 1 – 8. This indicates that there are 8 other boxes that should be in Bedroom 1.
  • Sticker Labeling – You can use unique stickers to identify where the box is supposed to go.
  • Label By Room – Labeling your boxes by room is a simple way to organize your boxes. You’ll know where your boxes are supposed to go.

Label your boxes on all sides so it’s easier for you and your movers to discern which box it is at all angles. It would also be a good idea to add ‘FRAGILE’, ‘HANDLE WITH CARE’, ‘THIS SIDE UP’, labels for boxes that have items that are easily breakable. The moving company can give you suggestions on a labeling system that you’re used to. Otherwise, you should share your labeling system to your movers so that they’ll know which boxes go where.

Organize Your Moving Papers

You are going to have a collection of moving papers and it’s best to keep them in one place. Your moving contracts, purchase documents, moving estimate paper, bill of lading, and inventory are some to name. That way, you’ll always have documents to refer back to if any questions happen to come up during your move. Remember to always carefully read through the documents before you sign them so that there aren’t any delays on a moving day.

Find Movers In Round Rock

Try to find movers early so that you’re not rushing last minute. You also don’t want to end up not being able to book movers either. Ideally, you’ll want to book your movers at least two months in advance. But worst-case scenario, a four-week minimum is advised. This is because professional and reliable movers are generally booked out two to three months ahead of time during peak moving seasons so you should want to try for that time frame as well. For off-season moves, you should be able to book a week to two weeks in advance.

You will first need to find out what you want to do for your move and then what moving services you’ll need. This will help you properly budget accordingly. Once you figure out which services you need for your move, call the moving companies that you’re interested in and request a quote.

If the moving company that you’re interested in does not offer a free quote, find one that does. There are several moving companies that give free quotes. You’ll want to acquire a minimum of three quotes and compare them with one another to see which one suits you best at the most competitive price.

Find The Right Moving Truck And Moving Container

If you decide to do your entire move by yourself, you’ll want to start searching for a moving truck and moving container rental at least a month before your move. Keep in mind that it might get busier during peak moving seasons. Additionally, you’ll want to make a list of all the packing supplies that you’ll need so you don’t have to make multiple trips to the store.

Leave Out Essential Items

Don’t forget to leave yourself with some essential items. After all, your move isn’t until your moving day so you don’t want to end up with no toilet paper. There could also be potential setbacks that may push back your moving day. It’s best to pack an essentials bag just in case. Leave out some toiletries, clothes, and other necessities you might need.

Notify Important Contacts

Create a list of companies that need to be notified of your relocation. For example, utility, bank, and other important contacts. Not only do you need to notify these companies at your current location to let them know you’re leaving, but you also need to find companies and notify them at your new location so you’ll have running water, heat, and electricity when you get there.

Keep Your Movers Informed

Let your movers know if you’re in need of any packing materials, of your overweight items (exercise equipment, grandfather clocks, appliances, pianos, etc.), narrow or tight corners and driveways, and if they’ll have to haul your boxes down and up any stairs or elevators. This will allow them to prepare the proper materials and technology for your move. For example heavy equipment moving machines, tools to disassemble and assemble your items, etc. Letting your movers know these tiny details can make your move go a lot smoother.

It’s also good to inform your movers of how they can best reach you during your move so that they can contact you as soon as any problems arise.

Make Sure That Your Items Are Insured

The U.S Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requires that all moving companies be liable for your belongings while they are in the care of the moving company. Having your items protected is important for your move. It is highly recommended that you invest in moving insurance to protect yourself from any liability. However, there are different levels of liability.

Two basic types of liability coverage that moving companies must offer are:

  • Full-Value Protection – If any articles are lost, destroyed, or damaged during your move, the moving company can either have the item repaired to the same condition it was before the damage or they can replace the item with another item of like-kind. For example, if a TV you’ve owned for two years becomes damaged, you will not get a brand new TV. You will receive a fair market value of a two year old TV.
  • Released-Value Protection – If any of your items have been damaged during the move, you will be reimbursed for up to $0.60 per pound. For example, your 50-pound item was damaged during the move. The item’s weight multiplied by $(512) 825-0777 x 0.60) would be $30. $30 is what the moving company is liable for regardless of what the item originally cost you.

On Moving Day

On a moving day, you will need to be present during your entire move to answer any questions your movers might have. You must stay until the movers have finished moving all your things. When the movers have finished loading the moving truck, take a look around to make sure that nothing has been left behind. You don’t want to make the whole trip back for just one box. Additionally, you should keep your bill of lading until all your boxes have been delivered, the charges have been paid, and the claims settled.

You can choose to supervise the movers as they unload and unpack so you can direct them to put your belongings in the right spots. If you have an inventory list, take note of all the boxes that have been damaged or missing before you sign the finished documents indicating that their service has been completed.
